Landrunning World Series

Landrunning is a new sport combining trail running and orienteering. The sport differs from traditional running races in which the race route is not marked on-site; runners choose their own route from one checkpoint to another, using a map and compass as guidance.
Pattaya Station is the first ever race in the first Landrunning World Series. Come join us in this historical moment!

Virtual race

We're offering the option of virtual races this year! You'll receive your runner pack like a real physical race. But you'll be using Metrunner mobile app to complete the race.

Metrunner app makes use of VR Street View technology to help you navigate and visit checkpoints. You complete the course and publish the results. Prizes will be given separately to virtual races winners.

Virtual race is perfect for you who might be worried about travel restrictions to Thailand. You can switch your entry to physical race later, if Thailand reopens for travel and you'd like to attend in person.

Event centre & arenas

The event centre is at Ravindra Resort Pattaya. Physical runners can book a hotel room at a price exclusive to runners when registering for the race.

Event centre? Arena?

An event centre is the central office of the entire multi-day event. It's usually at the official hotel. You can check in, get your runner pack, and buy merchandise at the event centre.

We're planning for hotel packages for you to enjoy more of the races with less hassle. You can buy a hotel package so you can register for the races and book a room at the official hotel in one go.

An arena is the central location of a particular race. You need to travel to the arena by yourself. Each race will have an arena. At the arena, you prepare for your race, meet other runners,  and have some snacks. Of course, you can also buy some merchandise at the arena.

Are you an international runner?

In this COVID-19 time, we understand that travel restrictions may hinder your physical participation in Thailand.

No worries—we're planning for your participation in accordance with Thai laws. Thailand plans to reopen for international tourism and we're keeping track of new arrangements and regulations.

We're planning a quarantine training package so if you're required to quarantine on arrival in Thailand, you'll make good use of the time to prepare well for your race.

Of course, you can also join our virtual races so you can explore Thailand at a distance.

Do you live in the EU? You're protected by the package travel laws if you buy a hotel package. Read the package contract here

Landrunning

What's Landrunning, really? It's actually a combination of trail running and orienteering, but distinct from both.

Landrunning differs from running in that the race route is not marked and you run to the next checkpoint with your own way.

Landrunning differs from orienteering in that all checkpoints are directly on paths and the focus is on route choice, instead of fine navigation skills.

The new sport of Landrunning offers the possibility for runners to explore the land and the stories on it.

Organise a Landrunning event

Beside the Landrunning World Series, the Landrunning programme will also consist of local events called Landrunning+ (Landrunning Plus), as well as training and workshops.

Landrunning has great growth potential among the large community of runners worldwide. Therefore, we need local organisers to help with this effort! If your company/club can help, please license a Landrunning event from us.

We'll provide the technical know-how, as well as personnel if necessary.

Please contact us for more details.

The following applies to physical races:

  • Start
  • Race
  • Finish
  • After the race

Please arrive at the start 10 minutes prior to your start time.

  • Start minus 3 minutes
    • Start officials call name and check SI card number.
    • Punch CLEAR and CHECK units to reset the SI card memory.
    • Start officials will instruct how you start the GPS tracking on https://app.metrunner.com. You need to take your phone during the race for GPS tracking.
    • You step into the first start box.
  • Start minus 2 minutes
    • You take the description sheet, which is a long piece of paper with description symbols that describe the location of the control points. You may bring your own description holder to hold the sheet.
  • Start minus 1 minute
    • You check if the map in front of you matches your category.
    • After checking, keep the empty side of the paper up. Do not read the map.
    • At 10 seconds and 5 to 0 seconds to start, the start clock will beep.
  • Start
    • Take map and start. You may now read the map.
    • You must pass by the start marker. This is marked by a violet triangle on your map.
    • No need to punch the start unit.

In case of late start, please report to start officials as soon as possible. You will then need to punch the start unit, take your map and go. Lost time will not be compensated, unless the delayed start is due to our fault.

You follow the course as denoted on your map, in order of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc.

You may not use any external help. This includes mobile phones, GPS navigation devices, asking other people etc.
Only your map and compass may be used as navigation aid.

You need to check the unit code at the control point, which is printed on the unit and also on the description sheet. The description is also printed on the map. You may then punch the control unit.

If you visited and punched the wrong control, please visit the correct one and punch it. If the wrong control was at an earlier point in the course, you need to re-punch the course from the affected control point.

If a control unit is out of order, use the red manual punch to punch holes on your map.

Only recorded results on the SI card are accepted as proof of having visited the control points. In case of units out of order, we will then check the manual punches.

Punch the finish unit. Timing stops automatically.

Stop the GPS tracking by closing the metrunner app.

Go to the results downloading counter.

Punch the reader unit. The official laptop will download the results. The results official will read the time to you or, in case of invalid results, tell you what’s wrong.

Your results and split times are automatically uploaded to the Mulka2 Cloud (http://bit.ly/mulka) where you can view live results.

Buy some merchandise, have some snacks, or leave and explore Pattaya! Remember to keep a distance of 2 metres with each other.

We'll send prizes to your home by mail.
