Japan is on the Ring of Fire around the Pacific, like the Philippines and Indonesia; this gives it a lot of volcanoes. Kaimondake Volcano and Cape Nagasakibana are at the far south of Kyushu; though not the southernmost point (that would be Cape Sata to the southeast).
